Our Ethos

Purpose

The Etsako in Diaspora South Africa Cape Town (EDCSA) is a non-political, non-religious, and non-profit organization dedicated to strengthening Etsako cultural heritage and fostering unity among its members. Through education, charitable initiatives, and social activities, EDCSA actively promotes the rule of law and contributes to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). We support all legally sanctioned activities that align with our mission.

Mission Statement

To unite, empower, and develop the Etsako community in South Africa by preserving cultural heritage, fostering education, and engaging in humanitarian service. EDCSA achieves this through seminars, workshops, training programs, and social activities designed to build capacity, strengthen community ties, and support meaningful development.

Past Events

  • From October 12th to 14th, 2023, Etsako in Diaspora, Cape Town (EDCSA) hosted the Cape Town Unity Cup, a three-day football tournament at Bayside mini stadium. The event brought together the Nigerian community in Cape Town, fostering unity and celebration. EDCSA won the tournament for the second time, showcasing exceptional teamwork. The Unity Cup, marking its third edition, promoted community pride. Hon. Abubakar Osikhena, EDCSA President, highlighted the tournament's role in strengthening community bonds. The event's success is seen as a foundation for future community-building initiatives.

  • On the evening of December 2, 2023, the Etsako community celebrated their annual Etsako Day, fostering unity and joy. Friends and families gathered for shared stories, laughter, and camaraderie. The festive event strengthened community bonds and created lasting memories, marking a chapter of warmth and celebration.

Community Sanitation Drive

Brooms in hand, EDCSA cleaned Parklands, beautifying shared spaces and building community pride.

EDCSA acted for community well-being, hosting a transformative health seminar and workshop. Individuals learned and adopted healthier lifestyles through engaging sessions, fostering a flourishing community

A delegate from Etsako in Diaspora delivering hand sanitizers to the Ogie Avhianwu of Avhianwu Kingdom. This gesture was part of the broader initiative to distribute sanitizers to all three Etsako Local Governments in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Charitable Visit

Demonstrating our commitment to community service and social responsibility, the EDCSA organizes visits to charitable organizations. One such initiative was our visit to the Motherless Babies Home in Tableview in December 2021.

EDCSA Supports Wildfire Victims

In April 2021, Etsako in Diaspora Cape Town provided support to Nigerian students at UCT who were affected by a wildfire on Table Mountain. This action demonstrated their commitment to community support and unity.
